All in the detail
Careful and meticulous attention to every last design and lifestyle decision is what sets a Bakehouse kitchen apart from the rest. So when this client approached us to create their dream kitchen with a blend of traditional joinery and contemporary design, getting every line, measurement and proportion just right was key to the elegant results you see
Blending old and new
The owners of this East London property took on a renovation including the creation of a new kitchen-dining space with links to the outdoors to be enjoyed by the family. With a huge appreciation for attention to detail, the nature of a bespoke design appealed so that every aspect could be tailored to their lifestyle needs, with the kitchen shaping the way they spend their time at home.
The Original Bakehouse Shaker formed the starting point for this space. While the client very much liked the traditional and simple nature of the door style, they wanted to add a unique contemporarytwist that would set this kitchen apart from any other – a design that was truly for them to enjoy.
A bespoke solution
The custom solution lay in blending the Original Bakehouse Shaker with bespoke slim horizontal details within the door fronts that perfectly align with the horizontal framing of the glazed internal doors leading into the space. Every horizontal door detail is painstakingly matched to the surrounding architecture while the cabinetry is aligned with the ceiling coffer, all creating a sense of permanence as if house and kitchen are one.
To perfect the design and ensure total harmony with every detail, we provided the client with regular 3D illustrations to showcase the kitchen and present materials, making certain each element combined perfectly to meet the distinguished vision for the space.
Island design
A generous framed island is constructed in a combination of solid Shaker doors and glazed cupboards to the side facing the dining area, creating an area for display. The island stands on legs offering a freestanding look in keeping with a more traditional aesthetic. The chosen shade of Farrow & Ball Railings adds to a modern interpretation alongside the textured quartz worktop to contrast the smooth style elsewhere.
“The individuality and the acute attention to detail is what makes this project stand out”
Alan Ramm, Bakehouse creative director
Storage requirements
The brief was also to include a utility room to one side of the kitchen where additional storage, extra appliances and a second sink are located, providing the ideal place to take things when entertaining to keep the main kitchen clear of clutter.
The emphasis on storage to suit family life also sees the inclusion of tall pantry units within the main kitchen space which feature pocket doors that can be tucked into the unit for a flush open option when in use. Then, to not detract from the eye from the craftsmanship of the bespoke woodwork, refrigeration is integrated into the units.
Elevated extras
Not only a practical addition, a made-to-measure ladder provides an attractive feature within the design of the space and proves useful when accessing the top of the tall units. It’s a part of the design that harks back to what might have been found in grand, traditional kitchens where ceiling height was maximised for the benefit of good storage.
For an elegant addition and to introduce a new texture into the space, a pearl panel was chosen to cover the extractor, complete with LED lighting to illuminate the cooking area and offer a soft ambient glow.
